Archives of American Art

The Archives of American Art offers graduate student, predoctoral, and postdoctoral fellowships primarily in the history of American art. Fellows have access to the Archives’ collections — consisting of more than 20 million documents — the world’s largest repository of primary sources on the history of visual arts and culture in America. Included in the collections are such diverse items as letters and diaries of artists; manuscripts of critics and the unpublished notes of art historians; records of art museums, galleries, and schools; personal photographs; sketchbooks and oral history interviews. Preference is given to research projects that are particularly appropriate to the Archives’ resources, collections, and staff. The application deadline is January 15 for awards beginning the following June 1.
