American Modernism (1890–present): Art, Architecture and Design, Literature, Music, and Photography

Georgia O’Keeffe Museum Research Center

The Georgia O’Keeffe Museum Research Center sponsors full-time academic fellowships in American Modernism from the late nineteenth-century to the present. Stipends are awarded to historians in the fields of art, architecture and design, literature, music and photography. The Research Center has library and archival collections related to Georgia O’Keeffe and her contemporaries and cultivates unique collections to further research on Georgia O’Keeffe, American Modernism, and related regional histories to place O’Keeffe in her context. Research Center fellows have access to the archive and library collections of the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum as well as collections from archival and library institutions across the Albuquerque and Santa Fe communities. In addition to those resources, the fellowship program strives to provide a supportive community and environment for scholars to pursue their research and writings.

Up to six academic fellowships are awarded annually with terms ranging from periods of three-to-nine months. The terms follow the academic period from September through August of each year. Stipends are available for three categories: Pre-doctoral, Post-doctoral, and Senior. In addition to the stipends, fellows are provided an office space in the Research Center. Terms are not renewable and cannot be extended. Recipients are expected to be in residence during the period of the award and to take part in the life of the Research Center.

The Research Center’s programs which include public lectures, a triennial Book Prize, symposia, informal discussions, and publications complement the Museum’s education, exhibition, and public programs. In addition, the Research Center invites a distinguished individual in museum studies for one month each year to explore museum issues and practices. Fellows are invited to participate in these programs and in the rich cultural milieu of the city and its institutions. For further information: http://www.okeeffemuseum.org/fellowship-programs.html
