The CCA is a research institution concerned not only with building new knowledge but also with making that knowledge productive. To do this, we apply architectural perspectives to topics beyond their usual disciplinary scope and methods from other fields to traditionally architectural subjects. We aim to adopt new ways of investigating that combine cultures and perspectives emerging from architectural practice, curatorial and publishing practice, and academic study.
The CCA defines topics of research that relate architecture to contemporary public concerns and create opportunities for critical inquiry. Practitioners and scholars from a variety of disciplines work with our collection, with us, and with one another through our Mellon Multidisciplinary Research, Research Fellowship, Virtual Fellowship, CCA-WRI Research Fellowship, Master’s Students, and Indigenous-led Design Fellowship programs.
