The Paul Mellon Centre is a vibrant research hub that thinks expansively about Britain and its complex cultural histories and contemporary contexts. It supports scholarship through its research programme, publications, archives, library, and grants and fellowships programme. The Centre is committed to ensuring diversity, preventing discrimination and creating an inclusive environment in which everyone has access to knowledge of British art, architecture and visual culture. The Centre was founded in 1970 by the art collector and philanthropist Paul Mellon. It is part of Yale University and a partner to the Yale Center for British Art.
Our funding programme supports research, educational activities and the dissemination of knowledge in the fields of British art and architectural history, from the medieval period to the present day and across the spectrum of relevant geographical and cultural contexts. Funding for individuals includes the New Narratives Scheme (MA/MPhil Studentship, Doctorial Scholarship, Early Career Fellowship), Research Support Grants, Senior Fellowships, Junior Fellowships, Mid-Career Fellowships, Postdoctoral Fellowships, Andrew Wyld Research Support Grants, the Rome Fellowship, Publication Grants. Funding for institutions includes Event Support Grants, Curatorial Research Grants, Publication Grants, Digital Project Grants, Collaborative Project Grants, Conservation Project Research Grants.
